Ever since Microsoft introduced its cloud computing service Azure, the company has ramped up its focus on cloud-based software offerings of all types. From One Drive to Office 365 to Dynamics 365, Microsoft is “all in” with the cloud.
That cloud-centered focus extends to its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) business management software. Microsoft has invested heavily not only in its one cloud-based ERP offering but also in its migration tools that allow existing on-premise Dynamics ERP users to move to the cloud platform. In its latest wave of Dynamics GP enhancements, Microsoft streamlined the process yet again for Dynamics GP users looking to make the move to Dynamics 365 Business Central in the cloud.
The biggest enhancement for February is the ability for users of Dynamics GP 2015 and newer versions to migrate data directly to Business Central in one simple step. Before this month, users had to upgrade their system to the latest version of Dynamics GP before they could make the transition to cloud-based Business Central.
Additional improvements pave the way for more Dynamics GP users to make the move to the cloud seamlessly. Specifically, users can now migrate the following pieces of their Dynamics GP Chart of Accounts directly to Business Central Dimensions:
- Active/inactive customer lists
- Ship to addresses
- Active/inactive vendors
- Order addresses for vendors
More enhancements designed to make the migration to the cloud easier for on-premise users are planned for April and June. If your company is holding off on migrating to the cloud due to potential challenges with migrating your inventory, for example, you won’t have to wait much longer. Additional inventory enhancements are slated for April along with key ISV migrations. June plans include updates to SmartList Designer and migration enhancement tools for the Bank Reconciliation module.
