A love for Microsoft technology and a drive to learn more has come full circle for Boyer’s newest Microsoft ERP support consultant. Brad Burks went from reading Boyer blogs to joining the consulting team.
A typical child in the 1990s, Burks grew up spending hours on his family computer and playing video games. His love for technology solidified early, he went to college to get a degree in Management Information Systems.
There was no question in his mind that he wanted to work with technology — specifically with Microsoft software. He’s always liked the Microsoft ecosystem.
Burks started out at a small Microsoft partner in south Florida that consulted on Dynamics GP. When the company decided to branch out into Microsoft’s cloud ERP, Burks jumped at the chance to learn a new Microsoft software.
He soon found himself the sole consultant for the company’s Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central practice. He learned on the go with Microsoft trainings and Google searches.
“I was very self-taught,” he said. “Google was my teacher.”
Last year his hard work paid off when he became Microsoft-certified as a Dynamics 365 Business Central Functional Consultant Associate. He also took the lead on migrating two clients from GP to BC, both Microsoft ERPs but with a completely different look and feel.
“Business Central has that modern Microsoft look to it. It’s more enticing … It’s in the cloud. It’s way easier to navigate,” Burks said.
‘Business Central is the future’
After nearly three years, Burks started looking for a position that focused more on Business Central, his new love.
“I was just browsing the market because Business Central is the future, and I wanted to be a part of it … I didn’t want to rely on Google and make up my own best practices,” he said. “I just felt kind of stuck where I couldn’t learn any more on my own.”
Burks knew about Boyer long before he saw the job posting for a Microsoft ERP support consultant. The company’s library of how-to articles related to Microsoft Dynamics ERP had proved useful in the past, and he had the company blog bookmarked.
“All along the way when I was learning GP too, a lot of Boyer blogs would come up and I would frequent the website a lot,” he said.
When he saw a job opening pop up on LinkedIn, he recognized the company name and thought, “These guys definitely know what they’re talking about.”
He’s happy to be joining a growing company that focuses on the Microsoft platform. At Boyer, Burks is a Managed Services Support Consultant for our Business Central and GP clients. He’s also looking forward to learning more about the Power Platform tools.
“I’m really excited to learn those because they encompass the modern Microsoft,” he said. “As long as I’m learning stuff I’ll be happy.”
Burks and his girlfriend, Jamie, both grew up outside of Miami and attended the same high school. They still live in south Florida with their rescue dog, Freya. They’re always up for trying out a new restaurant and enjoy spending time at the beach or walking the nearby nature trails.
Burks’ parents have since moved north to Tampa. The couple takes the four-hour drive to visit his family any chance they can — birthdays, holidays, BBQs and more.
