As Microsoft continues to expand on its Cloud for Nonprofit software solution, Boyer and Associates has been working with nonprofits to automate and simplify common nonprofit processes using the Power Platform. Our latest use case is automating application processes using Power Apps Portals and Dataverse to create a nonprofit client portal.
Starting with an ungated portal, a constituent fills out an application for the nonprofit organization and submits it. Upon submission, a Flow emails the constituent with instructions on setting up a profile and credentials for a gated portal. From this point forward, the constituent can work through the portal as part of the application process. This provides a user-friendly experience for communication, notifying users of updates to information and newly uploaded documents. Additionally, the nonprofit software portal experience allows for real-time updates as to the constituent’s application status and history of previous applications.
From the internal employee perspective, a Power App is used to manage the applicant process. Once the application is submitted, the information is passed into Dataverse, and the employee is alerted to a new applicant from their dashboard. Using Business Process Flows within the app, the employee guides the applicant through the application process, checking off documents and requirements. All the while, interaction is done through messages passed between the Power App and the Portal. This removes the bottleneck created when an employee is busy or out of the office. The process can continue with another qualified user.
As you can imagine, this process can span more than an application process and is an easy entry point into digitally transforming an organization’s processes with nonprofit software. Contact us to learn how to implement this solution and more for your nonprofit organization.
