It’s January. Today was a single digit temperature day here in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Twin Cities have great health clubs however. Ours has a sauna, and whirlpool-and I needed both.
Another hot thing this frigid winter day is Dynamics GP 2013. Microsoft keeps investing heavily in this product and with its ISV (Independent Software) Community, it’s arguably the best middle market ERP product in the U.S. Here are some of the things I find exciting about this upgrade.
Microsoft invested 78,000 hours of development time into this product. Many of Microsoft’s competitors in the middle market are less than 20 million in sales and could not possibly make this type of hours commitment to an new version of their product. Dynamics GP has 125+ new features. One of those exciting new things is a web client as an additional deployment option.
For more specifics about 60 of the more important features that have been added please take a look at the CAL Business Solutions post at http://www.erpsoftwareblog.com/2012/10/whats-new-in-microsoft-dynamics-gp-2013-descriptions-of-60-new-features/.
Microsoft hung this banner at their Fargo facility to celebrate their accomplishment with GP2013. We salute and appreciate Microsoft for continuing the tradition of high quality software and strong testing of new releases.
We are expecting another clean software-error free GP 2013 as well. Typically lots of hours toward a new release means a lot of testing has been done. The group in Fargo is so well known for strong testing of new releases that we are confident GP 2013 will be solid. In fact one of our consultants, a former Great Plains employee stated last Thursday that he has not seen a “rough” version of GP released to manufacturing for the past 10 years.
You may think your maintenance plan provides you with not as much value as you would like. Many software users think this but Microsoft invested 9.5 billion in improving their existing products last year. When we see the kind of effort GP 2013 got, we are confident that the Dynamics products (Dynamics GP, Dynamics SL, Dynamics AX, Dynamics NAV, and Dynamics CRM, are getting their fair share of this existing product improvement budget.
