For the past month, the Microsoft Dynamics SL team here at Boyer & Associates has been beta testing the new SL 2015. We have already posted on several new features and highlights of the program, which you can read here. We will continue to post regularly on our findings to inform you on what you can expect with the upgrade.Today, I am going to do a deep dive on one of the new features – the Possible Values Lookup or PV Lookup. This is the screen that pops up when you hit the F3 key or double right-click in a field that has a lookup associated with it. The PV Lookups have used the same functionality for many years, and that functionality was good. However, I must admit that I am pretty excited about the new PV Lookup … [Read more...] about Possible Values Lookup Feature in Dynamics SL 2015

Review of Microsoft Dynamics SL
An organization named TrustRadius asked me to review Microsoft Dynamics SL from a user’s perspective. I don’t know how they knew that we use Dynamics SL, or if they know that we have 200 Dynamics GP clients either. Boyer & Associates has a Dynamics SL practice with roughly the same number of users as GP, as well as a new Dynamics NAV practice that is only 3 months old with 5 clients. My expectation was that the group would not think I am objective enough to review their product being that we resell it. I was delighted to see that they published my review. Having used the product for 20 years, I was able to provide a different viewpoint, and it was enjoyable to be asked so many challenging and interesting questions. Here is the link to … [Read more...] about Review of Microsoft Dynamics SL

Management Reporter Balance Sheet Tips
Most of you already have a balance sheet that you are using for your monthly reports. The typical process is a combination of running a report in Management Reporter and then exporting to excel to make formatting adjustments or to correct the dollar amounts so they balance. Below are some tips to avoid having to export to excel to achieve a completed report straight from Management Reporter.1. Separating Your Report onto Two Pages: Balance sheet reports are a good example where you would want to separate the Assets section from the Liabilities and Equity section. To do this, enter the “PAGE” function in the Format Code section of the row definition just above where you would want to start the new page of the report. 2. … [Read more...] about Management Reporter Balance Sheet Tips

Customization Manager in Dynamics SL – Use It to Safely Configure the System to Your Business Needs
When I discuss making some customizations to a client’s Microsoft Dynamics SL system, the usual response is “we don’t want to customize the system too much.” Often, there is the misconception that any customization means developing new code outside of Microsoft Dynamics. While some business needs will require custom code to be written, using the Dynamics SL Customization Manager actually leverages the system and is fully supported by Microsoft. The Customization Manager allows users to modify standard Microsoft Dynamics SL screens quickly and easily.
