Software publishers at times are interested in “Win Wires”. They would like to know who they beat and why. While this is important for obvious reasons, what is more important to the client and to the consultant long term is whether or not the clients we did win also won. That is to say that the client cannot tell whether or not they “won” until the engagement has ended.Sajan, Inc. a dynamic and fast growing language translation firm with offices around the world selected Dynamics GP for its multi-currency capabilities and financial reporting capabilities. They also wanted a product with a strong community such as Dynamics GP that has thousands of users right here in the Twin Cities area of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Their staff has already … [Read more...] about Dynamics GP helps Language Translation Firm Translate its business abroad
Be Thankful Dynamics GP Users
Yesterday was Thanksgiving 2011 here in Minneapolis, MN, USA. More than 97% or our 250 or so Dynamics clients have renewed their plans. We have roughly the same number of Dynamics SL clients as Dynamics GP clients so, as you would guess, most clients renew their plans on both sides. ERP/Accounting Software has a reputation for being “sticky” due to the expense and disruption of change and in this economy not too many are buying or changing systems. Most are upgrading because it costs less and they can migrate all of their data-rather than only some of it.So if you are a Dynamics GP client right now-what do you have to be thankful about on this day of thanks? There are many reasons and I want to share them with you.1. Dynamics GP still … [Read more...] about Be Thankful Dynamics GP Users
Practical Examples of Useful Smartlists in Dynamics GP
Our Dynamics GP Practice Manager, Ron Pederson, does wonderful demonstrations of Dynamics GP. The part where Ron shows Smartlists working together with both the reminders on the Dynamics GP splash page and Microsoft Word for a mail merge makes people understand how well integrated to the rest of the Microsoft stack Dynamics GP is.So the demonstration of Smartlists starts with Ron opening up the Smartlists opening screen and then stating his problem. “I have a fair number of vendors that I’ve sent checks to that have not given me their federal tax id number so I can send them a 1099.” He then creates the Smartlist against the vendor record filtering out vendors who are NOT 1099 candidates and whose Tax ID field is not set to a empty or … [Read more...] about Practical Examples of Useful Smartlists in Dynamics GP

Dynamics GP Most Valuable Improvements-from an Expert
Jack Boyer: Erik, you’ve done support with Microsoft when you lived in Fargo and now you’ve been consulting on Dynamics GP for 10 years. What to you are the most exciting improvements you’ve seen over the past 2 version Dynamics GP 2010 and Dynamics GP Version 10?Erik Vigesaa: I would say the word templates in GP 2010 is one feature I can see most users benefiting from. The ability to auto email PO’s and Invoices as a PDF right from GP is a great new feature. GP 2010 R2 also added some nice mail merge functionality to make the email subject and body more personal for the recipient of the email.Workflow is another area that I like. In GP 2010 the Action Steps are a nice addition. Now you can have users validate that a report has … [Read more...] about Dynamics GP Most Valuable Improvements-from an Expert

Making Salestax less Taxing
Avalara, the national web service, that maintains state, county, and local salestaxes by taxing jurisdiction, is working on a maps technology that will make automating salestax even more accurate.Currently sales tax services do their salestax computations by zip code. This method is typically only 95% accurate. The challenge becomes when clients are paying for a web service for each transaction, their expectation is complete accuracy-almost 100%.It is embarrassing and frustrating to have a client tell you you charged them the wrong sales tax after you’ve taken the step of ensuring your taxes are correct by paying for a web service to automatically check, compute and insert proper salestax records into your sales … [Read more...] about Making Salestax less Taxing
Dynamics GP Key Interview Plans
Carol Simonson: You clearly like this idea of interviewing other people for your Dynamics GP posts now. Why are you doing this?Jack Boyer: I’m doing this because it occurred to me that my thoughts and ideas, while fascinating to me and my kids (ok I’m lying about the kids) are only so interesting due to my limited experience as mainly a sales and marketing professional and business owner.I’m also interviewing people because it allows me to learn more. One of the nice things about blogging is that you need to come up with research, create, or in this case borrow thoughts on a pretty much daily basis. This allows you to learn a lot of new things. I thought to myself if I could not only learn new things but get introduced to people … [Read more...] about Dynamics GP Key Interview Plans
AP Automation
Dynamics SL is known for its Multi-Company and Project Accounting capabilities. Dynamics GP is known for its strong financial modules and integration tools.Still the fact is that many of our clients on both sides simply buy and use General Ledger, FRx or Management Reporter for Financial Statement creation, and then Accounts Payable. Many add Accounts Payable EFT to get out of the writing checks tedium, but still…more than half of our clients on both sides are using these Microsoft products for their financial capabilities, not their distribution or project capabilities.Which begs the question…”What about AP Automation?” Isn’t there more we can do to eliminate the effort involved in having someone key in invoices for us to pay when … [Read more...] about AP Automation
