“Your head is in the clouds” used to refer to someone dreaming; however, in today’s world of technology, this phrase could refer to the many companies who have realized the advantages of Cloud Computing for their ERP solutions.I’m old school, so the thought of a server somewhere offsite that is being supported by non-employees was not something I quickly warmed to using. I liked the idea that I could see the server, touch it, and hear the drives spinning as my company processed work through it. I found order in the controlled backup procedures we had developed and honor in being charged with securing our offsite weekly backup.Kicking and screaming I forged into the world of Cloud Computing, sure that performance was going to be poor … [Read more...] about Cloud Computing – Your ERP Solution on Cloud Nine
Dynamics GP 2013 SmartList Export Error
We have seen a new issue with SmartList export in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 – it is truncating numbers to the thousands place. For example, on the two incidents we saw, they had a number in SmartList like 4,950.00. When exported to Excel, it exported as 4. Changing the format on the column does nothing to fix the problem. This error seems to be related to a change Microsoft did with the formatting of SmartList data for Excel. With the introduction of the Web Client in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013, the development team needed the ability improve the performance of SmartList exports over the browser. To gain a dramatic improvement in performance, during the export to Excel, the number format in a SmartList amount column is ignored and the … [Read more...] about Dynamics GP 2013 SmartList Export Error
Proactive Planning with the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Requisition Worksheet
I am always amazed when I visit a Microsoft Dynamics NAV user who has been on the system for a while and I find that their purchasing department is not taking advantage of the Requisition Worksheet capabilities of NAV. Often, I hear it is too complicated or there is a fear of loss of control in the requisition process. Both of these could not be further from the truth. What the NAV Requisition Worksheet does is move the requisition process from being reactive to being more proactive. Through the proper setup of controls on an item and the maintaining of those controls based on changes in that item’s environment, companies have a tool that will suggest what, when, and how much to buy. All of this information is the result of what is … [Read more...] about Proactive Planning with the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Requisition Worksheet

Managing Byproducts with Microsoft Dynamics NAV
It is not uncommon for manufacturing companies to have byproducts as the result of manufacturing. In some cases, this is a different product that is produced and has a value; other times, it may be the same basic end item but of a different quality. I have run into both of these situations. One was a chemical company with a different byproduct, and the other was a cloth manufacturer where, upon completion, some of the finished material was of a sub-grade and could not be sold as the end item. Both of these situations can be managed by setting up a negative line in the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Bill of Materials.Be careful when setting up a negative line, as you don’t normally want this to be flushed, but rather the result of a negative … [Read more...] about Managing Byproducts with Microsoft Dynamics NAV

Synchronize All Ownership & Security in Dynamics SL
As Microsoft Dynamics SL consultants, we run into issues with connectivity to Dynamics SL, errors when opening screens or running reports. Some of these issues have straightforward causes and resolutions, but at times it is just a matter of the security getting out-of-sync in the databases. Running the “Synchronize All Ownership & Security” update scenario in Database Maintenance resolves these security issues and gets Dynamics SL running smoothly again. What causes these inconsistencies with the security? It could be adding in a new third party application, changing the authentication method from SQL to Windows, or moving the databases between SQL servers – these are the easy ones. Every now and then something may happen in SQL … [Read more...] about Synchronize All Ownership & Security in Dynamics SL
Microsoft Dynamics NAV System Generated Filters – Sometimes Turning Them Off Turns You On To Data
Most Microsoft Dynamics NAV users are familiar with filters and their use in limiting the data displayed on the screen or in a report. Microsoft Dynamics NAV allows users to filter on any field in the table in order to find the information the user wants. In addition to user filters, there are NAV filters that come on automatically when a particular screen is accessed. An example of this is ledger entries; when a user selects ledger entries from a GL Account, Customer, Vendor, or Inventory Item, NAV automatically filters the data to just the element that was selected. If you were to call for general ledger entries from a chart of account, NAV will only show you the ledger entries related to that account. What some users are not aware … [Read more...] about Microsoft Dynamics NAV System Generated Filters – Sometimes Turning Them Off Turns You On To Data
