In an ERP system, actual numbers are usually preferred. However, there are times when the information is better presented in a graphical format. Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 has a number of graphs that are available within the Role Tailored Client, but most users don’t realize they can create additional graphs. In the Search box, located in the upper right corner of the menu screen, enter Generic Charts and then choose the link. This will take you to Departments / Administrator / Application Setup / RoleTailored Client / Generic Charts. The screen below is an example of the available charts with NAV 2013.There are over 45 predefined charts that come with NAV 2013, but what if the chart you want is not available? Review of Microsoft Dynamics SL
An organization named TrustRadius asked me to review Microsoft Dynamics SL from a user’s perspective. I don’t know how they knew that we use Dynamics SL, or if they know that we have 200 Dynamics GP clients either. Boyer & Associates has a Dynamics SL practice with roughly the same number of users as GP, as well as a new Dynamics NAV practice that is only 3 months old with 5 clients. My expectation was that the group would not think I am objective enough to review their product being that we resell it. I was delighted to see that they published my review. Having used the product for 20 years, I was able to provide a different viewpoint, and it was enjoyable to be asked so many challenging and interesting questions. Here is the link to … [Read more...] about Review of Microsoft Dynamics SL
Renaming Records in Microsoft Dynamics NAV
One of the more interesting features of Microsoft Dynamics NAV is the ability to rename a record. Within NAV, you can rename a Customer, a Vendor, an Item – almost anything. NAV will go through the entire database and rename the record everywhere it is found.Renaming a Customer or Item will change all open and historical records to reflect the new number for the record. This feature can be valuable in many situations. One situation that comes to mind is where clients have used intelligent customer numbers, putting their customers in alphabetic order, only to have a customer change their name. (I want to state here that I always recommend against intelligent numbering schemes, but sometimes clients don’t listen to me.)To rename a record, … [Read more...] about Renaming Records in Microsoft Dynamics NAV

Microsoft Dynamics NAV Rules-Based Configurators
There are a number of Rules-Based Configurators available for Microsoft Dynamics NAV. These products are offered by NAV ISVs and range in functionality from simple to complex, with costs as varied. For many companies, a NAV Rules-Based Configurator is the tool that allows for the most efficient quoting, ordering, and producing of products with multiple options. In this case, a Rules-Based Configurator can reduce the time to estimate and quote the product while increasing the accuracy of the quote by eliminating possible oversights and wrong … [Read more...] about Microsoft Dynamics NAV Rules-Based Configurators
