Entering budgets into Microsoft Dynamics SL is a bit of a problem. We have developed a system at Boyer & Associates, called Budget Import, which allows the user to import an Excel spreadsheet used to create the budget, avoiding user error in converting or entering the data, and allowing the data to be inserted quickly and easily. It consists of two screens and allows for significant flexibility in how the source file is formatted, while remaining simple to setup.Currently in Dynamics SL, the standard Budget Maintenance screen (01.250.00) only allows you to access a single account and subaccount at a time:That gives you good control over each line in the budget, but consider that a company with 50 accounts (a tiny list) and 4 … [Read more...] about Budget Import for Dynamics SL

Dynamics GP 2015 Service Based Architecture Overview
I recently attended reImagine2014, a Microsoft event directed to GP partners. This event provided a sneak peak at Dynamics GP 2015 for consultants, developers, and sales people. While there are many good features and functionality being delivered in GP 2015, there is one that really stands out in the crowd – Service Based Architecture (SBA).I would love to be able to show you many screen shots of this new feature, but unfortunately, it’s not a feature that has a pretty face to show off. However, it definitely has the ability to change how you use Dynamics GP and potentially how you do your business. My hope is that, by reading this, I can provide you with an overview of SBA, why Microsoft added it to Dynamics GP, and how you could use … [Read more...] about Dynamics GP 2015 Service Based Architecture Overview

Dynamics GP Year-End Tip – Update 1099 Information
Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 has been around for a little while now, but there is a new feature that was added that I like to remind people about. It used to be that if someone forgot to setup a 1099 vendor correctly in GP, you were forced to go through a few manual steps to get the right 1099 information to print out of GP. Usually, users would just update the summary record in GP, which could lead to some confusion when trying to understand why the detailed invoice had a 1099 amount of $0.With GP 2013, that has all changed. Now, there is a simple utility that a user can run in order to update the detailed transactions in GP and produce an accurate 1099 report. When I catch that my vendor AmericaCharge was never setup as a 1099 vendor, I … [Read more...] about Dynamics GP Year-End Tip – Update 1099 Information
Attachments in GP 2013 – Part 3
Everything is setup and now you want to send a document with attachments to the customer So the first two posts – Part 1 and Part 2 – showed you how to setup attachments, enable email for the customer address, and allow attachments to ‘flow’ to the new Sales Orders. Now, it is time to send the sales document to the customer and include the attachments. For this example, I will use the prior sales document that I created for Adam Park. That customer has an attachment on it which flowed to the new sales document, and the item that I have put on the order has an attachment on it that also flows to the new sales document. Open Sales Transaction Entry Since I already have the document defined, I will bring it up in Sales Transaction Entry. For … [Read more...] about Attachments in GP 2013 – Part 3
