Our Multi-Company Dimension Filters extension is a simple add-on solution that allows you to restrict which users can post to specific dimensions.
Out of the box, Business Central lets companies set basic restrictions on what can be posted to a specific dimension. However, these restrictions must be set on a global level and cannot change depending on who is posting.
Many of our clients use Binary Stream’s Multi-Entity Management (MEM) add-on functionality with Business Central. This greatly increases their ability to give rights to some individuals and not others.
But not all companies are in need of a full-scale MEM solution. If all you need are a few tweaks here and there to the out-of-the-box functionality within Dynamics 365 Business Central, it might be time to check out Boyer’s extension library.
Our Multi-Company Dimension Filters extension is a simple add-on solution that allows you to restrict which users can post to specific dimensions.
For example, maybe you don’t want your AR user to post to a department called corporate. Or perhaps you want your company’s senior financial team to be able to post to any dimension while greatly restricting the posting ability for other employees.
This extension creates a User Dimension Filters list page where an administrator can add filters that restrict a specific user’s ability to post to certain dimensions. This filter is checked whenever a user attempts to post and returns an error message if the user doesn’t have rights to post to that dimension. If the filter is left blank, that user has no restrictions.
Keep in mind this extension does not offer full MEM functionality. It is, however, a great alternative if you just need a little bit of tweaking to your multi-entity management capabilities within Business Central.
