Boyer & Associates’ ERP support team is growing. We’re pleased to announce the addition of Lin Shi as a support desk consultant for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and NAV.
Shi has 13 years of experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV as both a developer and consultant. She got her degree, a double-major in Accounting and Management Information Systems, from the University of Houston and was immediately recruited for an internship.
Shi spent five years as a Microsoft Dynamics NAV developer for the Rand Group before switching gears to serve as a functional consultant for an end user in the oil and gas industry.
“I realized that I actually enjoyed that a lot more than development,” Shi said. She worked for Superior Energy Services as a NAV applications analyst for eight years.
When they decided to outsource their NAV system, she worked for the Indian-based company for a while. Eventually, the strain of juggling work in multiple time zones became too much, and she started looking for a new position.
She heard about the position at Boyer through a recruiter. During her interview, she was impressed with the Minneapolis ERP reseller’s work culture.
“It was the people I met at Boyer. It was a really positive and encouraging environment where everybody worked together,” she said.
She noted that while many companies might do similar work, the culture and coworkers can make a big difference.
“Sometimes what it comes down to is people’s personalities. It seems like Boyer has a great group of people where everybody is supportive and helpful, and they’re really looking to collaborate,” she said.
Shi is excited to be a part of that collaboration at Boyer, working together on the ERP support team to help clients solve their problems. It’s one of her favorite parts of being a technical consultant.
“I just enjoy working with users and being able to help them with their problem. It’s really rewarding for me when someone is upset over a problem, and I can calm them down and help them figure out a solution,” she said.
Shi has dabbled a bit in Microsoft’s enterprise ERP solution as well, assisting on an implementation for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations.
“Even though I could do it, I just enjoy NAV more,” Shi said.
As for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, the cloud ERP based on NAV, Shi is especially impressed with the extensions that help make the solution even more robust.
“There’s just so much more functionality than there used to be,” she said. “The accounting aspect is all the same. At the same time you have all these add-ins and extensions which are so great … You don’t have to reinvent the wheel.”
Shi has already hit the ground running, having met with several clients in need of ERP support and assisted with solving their problems.
“I’m just excited to be here and to be able to help the clients with their needs,” Shi said.
Shi and her husband, Josh, live an hour outside of Houston, Tx. with their two children. Sophia just turned 11, and Matthew is 9. When they’re not at the baseball/softball field, Shi enjoys watching science fiction TV shows or making toys with her 3D printer. She recently made 40 lightsaber pencil covers for her husband’s first grade class.
