Boyer’s newest employee has 16 years of development experience with Microsoft Dynamics ERP and recently became a U.S. citizen. We’re excited to have María Ocampo join the Boyer team as a technical consultant/developer.
Initially working as a website developer, Ocampo’s skills caught the attention of a business owner just starting a practice for Microsoft Business Solutions Navision 3.7. She joined the new practice in 2006 and never looked back.
“I think it was the best decision of my life because it changed the game for me,” she said.
Ocampo worked at the Colombian-based company for six years until it was acquired. She continued working as a NAV and Business Central developer for companies in Colombia and South Africa before moving to the U.S. in 2019.
A short year later, her Florida-based company was acquired by a larger firm based in Minnesota. While she still had a job, the work culture just didn’t feel quite the same at the rapidly growing company. When a former coworker suggested she apply at Boyer, Ocampo decided to take the chance.
The idea of working for a company known for its “Minnesota Nice” culture helped seal the deal. “I like that you are from Minnesota — That’s five stars already,” she said.
Ocampo said the Boyer team has been very welcoming and is making her feel appreciated. At Boyer, she will be working mainly as a developer for Microsoft’s cloud ERP, Dynamics 365 Business Central.
Ocampo said development work is a lot like puzzles, bringing all the pieces together to create a working and visually appealing solution. She likes being able to put the pieces together to meet clients’ unique requests.
“I enjoy making it beautiful and making it user friendly and improving it so when the user sees it they say this is exactly what I wanted and even better,” she said.
Ocampo and her husband, Andres, recently moved to North Carolina and have two teens, an 18-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy.
When she’s not busy working, Ocampo likes enjoying “the simple things.” She also enjoys exploring new places, whether that be a new restaurant in the next town or experiencing her first snowfall in Minnesota.
“I like visiting new places so much,” she said. Of course, she also enjoys traveling home. She went back to Colombia to visit her mom just before starting her new position at Boyer.
The next time she travels, it will be as a U.S. citizen. Ocampo recently passed the naturalization test and will take her oath to become a U.S. citizen this month.
“I’m so very excited to be a part of this country!” she said.
