Cindy Baumler has 25 years of accounting experience
Boyer is pleased to welcome our newest Dynamics 365 Business Central and SL consultant. Cindy Baumler has more than 25 years of experience in the industry and is familiar with multiple ERP systems.
Baumler has always been a part of organizations that were growing and evolving their processes, and Boyer is no different. She’s already enjoying her new role as part of a collaborative environment at Boyer & Associates and is looking forward to meeting clients.
“When you’re a controller in a small environment, you’re on an island a little bit,” Baumler said. “You’re not out with customers or products. You’re not really part of operations. You’re the back office person.”
Having spent most of her career in accounting, Baumler understands the client perspective well. “I can so relate to how they’re used to doing things and now they have to do it differently,” she said.
Baumler got her start in accounting thanks to an accounting class in high school. She liked the teacher and found the class easy so decided to embark on a career in it. After completing a two-year degree, she landed her first job as a general ledger specialist at Wirsbo (now called Uponor).
She continued to gain experience and climb the corporate ladder through various accounting roles at companies in the medical device and medical software industry. She spent the last 6 years as a controller.
While this is Baumler’s first official role as a consultant, she’s assisted on the client side with several ERP implementations. She’s familiar with multiple ERPs including Oracle, JD Edwards, Quickbooks, TM1 and Dynamics SL — and likes the intuitiveness of the latter.
In fact, she first met Jack Boyer and his company in the 1990s when Wirsbo implemented Solomon software, now known as Dynamics SL. That’s when Boyer recruited Baumler’s coworker Colleen McCoshen, who has stayed in touch with Baumler ever since.
When Baumler decided to move on from Wirsbo, she took the Boyer team’s recommendation to apply for a position at Zimmer Spine, where she worked as a financial analyst for nearly 10 years.
More recently, when her employers at Respicardia started looking for a new ERP system, Baumler was quick to point them in the direction of Boyer & Associates. The company ended up going with another solution but then was acquired by a larger firm, prompting Baumler to start looking for a new job.
“It was a great time to leave because I didn’t want to be part of a big corporate structure again,” she said.
Boyer had suggested she consider consulting so when his company opened up a position, she applied.
“I think I was kind of burnt out on accounting,” Baumler said. “It gets kind of monotonous after a while so I was ready for a change.”
Moving into a role where she could assist with ERP implementations seemed a perfect fit. Even as an accountant those had been some of her favorite projects.
“I always enjoyed being on the ERP system implementations,” she said. “I always enjoyed here’s where we’re at and here’s what the system can do. How can we change our business processes and make them more efficient with the new system?”
Baumler likes helping customers integrate their data from multiple systems into one streamlined solution. They no longer have to rely on multiple spreadsheets or deal with mismatched numbers.
“I love to teach so I love learning something new and being able to teach it to clients and just helping them improve their processes,” she added. She looks forward to helping clients automate processes and make their job easier.
Baumler especially enjoys financial reporting because she says building a report gives her a better understanding of a company’s inner workings.
“It tells a story. If you have to explain your financial reports to somebody, you have to know what’s going on in the company,” she said. “You have to know what the report means to be able to tell the story.”
Baumler lives in Prior Lake with her husband Jeff and two college-aged daughters, Elizabeth and Grace. When she’s not working, Baumler enjoys taking in a live country music concert or being outdoors. She also enjoys traveling, particularly to Mexico or the southeastern portion of the U.S.
