After thoroughly examining several cloud-based vendors by attending their training classes, Boyer & Associates decided that focusing on Microsoft Dynamics was clearly the way to go. We thought about “the focus factor” and discussed it internally. The reason I bring this up now is because I believe it is the focus on Microsoft technologies that has helped us reach this point where Microsoft and the media is noticing how much we have improved in a short amount of time.
Partners focused mainly on making money on the initial sale have also “diversified” which to Jack Boyer means “diluted” the strength of their consulting teams. There are too many modules for most individual consultants to assist clients competently with more than one Dynamics ERP solution.
When you start consulting on products that don’t even use SQL Server or Windows Server for their platform-your value to price per hour ratio plummets for the client. This is something we plan to avoid. We love SQL Reporting Services and SQL Analysis Services. These are tools that come with Dynamics ERP products because the underlying database is SQL Server. These are also tools that greatly facilitate web enablement of both reports and Business Intelligence dashboards. Our clients tend to love Microsoft, love their products, and want a partner that very much feels the same way.
Like every other software developer, Microsoft wants to sell software. Microsoft we believe sees great future value however in consulting organizations willing to focus solely on their products. We believe this is in part because Microsoft continues to invest heavily in making their solutions more and better entwined with the rest of their infrastructure. If you are consulting on Microsoft ERP products only, your chances of thoroughly understanding how Dynamics ERP integrates with Office, Sharepoint, Active Directory, Outlook/Exchange and even Lync greatly increases. This means you are in a better position to make your Microsoft Dynamics ERP client a satisfied one.
