Boyer’s Dynamics NAV/BC consultant team is growing yet again. Our newest consultant, Todd Gipson, has more than 20 years of experience in operations and supply chain management and 15 years of experience with Microsoft Dynamics ERP.
“I’m excited to be here,” Gipson said. “This is my 20-25- year sprint to retirement.”
He started his career in the early 2000s as a purchasing and warehouse manager for an electrical contractor before moving to Airtron Heating & Air Conditioning, which was at the time a small, family-owned HVAC company in Indianapolis.
“You had to do a little bit of everything. It was a great introductory role,” Gipson said. He watched the company grow from a family-owned small business into a national HVAC supplier.
In those early days, the company used Solomon to keep track of its financials. By 2007 they had upgraded to the latest version of Microsoft Dynamics SL. Gipson was part of an internal IT team that went to newly acquired locations and implemented the software at those branches. He also spent time training other employees on the solution.
Eventually, Gipson decided it was time for a slight change of scenery. In 2013 he moved to Aqua Systems, a water treatment center also out of Indianapolis. It proved to be yet another family-owned business that grew quickly and added on multiple locations.
They used Microsoft Dynamics NAV, and Gipson was again part of an internal team that traveled to new locations and upgraded their software to be consistent with the rest of the company. In 2019, the company relocated Gipson to Madison, Wis. where its sister brand, Hellenbrand Water, was headquartered. There he was part of an upgrade from Dynamics NAV on-premise to Dynamics 365 Business Central in the cloud.
“They were both great companies, great people to work for,” Gipson said of his last two employers. He was particularly interested in the Dynamics NAV/BC consultant job with Boyer because the Minneapolis-based ERP reseller supports the same ERP software solutions that he has used throughout his career. While he received other job offers, he chose Boyer because it seemed a more natural fit.
“They really sold it for me as far as the family atmosphere and how everybody’s really close,” Gipson said. “You just feel like there’s this incredible amount of camaraderie and ability.”
Because Gipson has spent so many years as an end user he understands well the needs and frustrations that clients have with ERP transitions. While he’s still adjusting to the official Dynamics NAV/BC “consulting” role, his deep understanding as an end user gives him an edge in relating to clients and helping them with the move.
“I’ve been through some of those snags, those hurdles on the client/end-user side so I think I can give a perspective of calmness, understanding and empathy to the client,” he said.
Gipson is currently working on a GP to BC migration project.
“I’m game for anything. I’m not going to be as fast right now… but I’m going to be great at this. I’m really confident because I just know that I’ll put in the work to be great,” he said.
Outside of work, Gipson is a retired assistant football coach. He coached football at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis for 10 years. The team went on to win a state championship in 2014 and came close a few other times. Several of the former players have gone on to join NFL teams, including a Bengals running back who participated in the 2022 Super Bowl.
Gipson and his wife, Christina, have been married for 20 years and have three children. Their oldest daughter graduated from Indiana University, their son is currently playing collegiate football at Marian University, and their youngest daughter is in seventh grade. The couple moved to Madison, Wis. in 2019, just in time for a Halloween snow storm — a shock for the Indiana natives.
“My wife and I are best friends,” Gipson said. “We do a lot of things together.”
They like to explore local haunts for the best food, beer and cheese and frequent festivals whenever possible. They especially love live music and sometimes feel like roadies with how many live concerts they attend. One of their favorite concerts was American rock band Revivalists at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheater in the mountains of Colorado.
