Boyer is growing yet again, with the hire of an associate consultant for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Michael Todd, who uses his full first name to differentiate from the other Mikes in his life, joined the Boyer team in May.
Todd grew up watching his uncle, Thomas Marks, consult on Microsoft Dynamics NAV. When he struggled to settle on a major in college, his uncle provided some much-needed clarity. Todd graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in business administration.
He interned at his uncle’s company, G&T Consulting, in 2019. That’s where he got his first hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics ERP software.
“Just watching him it was challenging, and I’m always up for a challenge. I hate just being content and going through the motions,” Todd said.
While he could have focused on other ERP solutions, Todd was not impressed with the ones he’d seen. He didn’t like the layout of the SAP solution he used in college. Similarly, the new Sage ERP that a previous employer was struggling to implement just didn’t pass muster compared to Microsoft’s solutions.
“I’ve seen NAV. It’s just so much cleaner and more user friendly for me,” Todd said.
“My goal is just to learn as much as possible and grow with the company. I’d like to create a career.”

Todd heard about the job opening at Boyer through his uncle, who was acquainted with owner Jack Boyer. He wanted a job with a good life/work balance and is so far impressed with Boyer’s culture of collaboration and friendship.
“It seems like a good environment. (My coworkers) all get along together. It’s more not acquaintances but a true friendship,” he said.
After nearly a week on the job as an associate Business Central consultant, Todd already has a list of 21 items to do, and his schedule is quickly filling up with meetings. He said his coworkers have gone out of their way to help him learn the software and get up to speed.
“I’m fairly new in the NAV/BC world so my goal is just to learn as much as possible and grow with the company. I’d like to create a career instead of a dead end job,” he said.
Despite his challenges in making a decision in college, Todd is happy with his final choice.
“I enjoy working on a computer,” he said. “I’m not a manual laborer type of person. It seemed a good fit because of that and just shadowing my uncle and seeing what he does, which piqued my interest. I’m very content with what I’m doing now.”
That said, Todd’s ultimate job, is to someday own a golf course.
“I’m a big golfer. That’s pretty much my entire life now. I get out as much as I can,” he said.
On a typical day, Todd gets up at 5 a.m., goes to the gym, comes back to work and at the end of the day, goes golfing with his roommate and other friends.
He loves the outdoors in general and also enjoys basketball — he played in high school and coached his little brother’s team — bow hunting and fishing. Todd grew up in a small town north of his current home in Grand Rapids, Mich. He goes home to visit when he can and enjoys spending time on the beach at Lake Michigan.
“If I can be outside, I’m going to be outside,” he said. “My life revolves around my friends and doing something outdoors really.”
