When we compare our Dynamics GP product to our Dynamics SL product, we find the following to be true.1. Dynamics GP is easier to set up and get going quickly.2. Dynamics SL is more fully featured.SalesPad, a distribution add-on helps bridge the gap between ease of use and being fully featured. People entering sales orders in SalesPad have a much easier time getting their orders in while at the same time having better features than the Sales Order Processing (SOP) and Purchase Order Processing (POP) modules offered by Dynamics GP.In the Sales Order screen within SalesPad you cansee the whole ship to address and easily change that Ship To address. rearrange fields yourself as a user so that the fields are in the order … [Read more...] about Easier Sales Order entry in Dynamics GP

A Better Way to Show Discounts on Quotes
We have a client here in the Twin Cities, MN, USA that resells door hardware mostly to schools. Before using Dynamics GP, this client was going through challenging quote gymnastics each time they did a quote. They were challenged when they would not discount the quote for the client, and they were challenged internally, with a lot more work and setting future unwanted expectations, when they would offer a discount.Because they did not want the client to see the word “Discount” on the quote-thereby encouraging each client to ask for a discount each time something was quoted, they went through the difficult process of effectively discounting each line item so that the quote itself did not show the word “discount” at the bottom-but footed … [Read more...] about A Better Way to Show Discounts on Quotes
Lockboxes with Dynamics SL
Microsoft Dynamics SL has a powerful Lockbox module that was developed by Sandler/Kahne Software. The module was developed in the Dynamics SL toolset and looks and feels like the other modules that Microsoft licenses. Why do people consider lockboxes rather than having checks mailed directly to them? Here are a few reasons:To increase cash velocity by reducing the outstanding float created by not sending the money straight to the bank. Many large banks deposit money several times a day so often your cash gets deposited a day earlier as well. To save time as the lockbox software does the cash application for you automatically. When the bank scans the checks using Optical Character Recognition (OCR), they … [Read more...] about Lockboxes with Dynamics SL
Dynamics SL-Many Ways to Bill Customers
Over the past 17 years we’ve been in business here in Minnesota, we’ve supported a grand total of only 5 accounting software packages. But 5 is still enough to get a good taste for what is good and bad about a particular accounting software product. One of the many things I like about Dynamics SL, is its ability to deliver invoices to clients however those clients/customers want to see them.Invoicing and meeting client/customer demands for invoice formats can be a pain. No one wants to re-key invoice formats into Excel or Word for large clients to “keep the business”. Some businesses have picky clients that want their invoice formats to be very specific. In the Project Series there is a module called “Flexible … [Read more...] about Dynamics SL-Many Ways to Bill Customers
Dynamics GP for Dummies
I’ve always found the “For Dummies” books ironically satisfying. The titles require a self-deprecating and humble audience, yet the authors these “Dummies” hire are usually the best.I’ve read Patrick McEnroe’s “Tennis for Dummies” having played some tennis and experienced some of the best tennis coaches (for my kids) in the central part of the U.S. It takes a real expert to make complex concepts easy to grasp. The kid brother may not have been as good a player as his brother, John, but he sure is articulate and practical. Rather than grasping for straws today on a blog topic, I looked through my bookshelf and found “Small Business for Dummies" by Eric Tyson and Jim Schell. It reminded me how fun yet insightful … [Read more...] about Dynamics GP for Dummies

Closing The Month Faster with Dynamics SL and GP
Steven Bragg is the author of “Fast Close” and 18 other accounting books including one of the most best read accounting books in the U.S.-“Accounting Best Practices”.Some of you may be thinking that you would prefer to watch a Minnesota Twins game where the club makes their annual come back from a slow start into an exciting pennant contender. If you are more consumed with getting the books closed faster, this post is for you. Each year it seems there is more and more pressure to close quickly with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and organizations eagerness to find out early how they performed due to the economy. Some of the bullets from Bragg’s book on closing your books more quickly are the following:Shifting the timing of closing … [Read more...] about Closing The Month Faster with Dynamics SL and GP
Dynamics SL Contract Management
Construction seems to be coming back. Before the state of Minnesota government shut down last Friday, I was hearing from both existing client construction firms and prospective client construction firms about improvements they wanted to make. I would assume that outside of Minnesota, this wake-up in the construction community is happening since other states don’t have the unfortunate shut down in state financed projects that many of our construction firms are seeing here. (Our income tax is 8% here and the state would like to increase that-so there is plenty of state money to spend on construction and everything else.)This post is about a Microsoft ERP product called Dynamics SL and what it can do for construction firms … [Read more...] about Dynamics SL Contract Management
Dynamics GP Integration Suite and Integration Manager
Many software programs offer their integration tools for free. Typically, you get what you pay for and Integration Manager, part of Integration Suite, shows you that free is not always your best choice-especially if you've struggled with integration tools that make you experiment a lot in order to nail an integration. While Integration Manager is not free-the value it provides is high. The software has a user interface that shows you how your data will integrate. It validates the data coming in, and it provides useful information about rejected data.Below is an overview of Integration Manager with excerpts from the manual. This should show you that the documentation to the Dynamics GP Integration Manager is … [Read more...] about Dynamics GP Integration Suite and Integration Manager
