Two Report Changes in Dynamics SL 2015 – Metadata and Emailing Print Previews
Microsoft Dynamics SL 2015 has a number of nice new features. I am going to highlight two that will make everyone’s reporting processes just a little better -- the addition of “meta” data on reports and the ability to email print previews. Feature #1 - Metadata What is metadata? Metadata is a technical way of saying extra data or additional attributes. The reason that it is important to you is that it allows the tables and columns that are referred to in a report to have “English” descriptions. So instead of looking up fields with a funky description like pjproj.pm_id01, you will now be able to see that field as “Project Type”.Here are a few examples. First, I will show you the project listreport. When you run this report, you are … [Read more...] about Two Report Changes in Dynamics SL 2015 – Metadata and Emailing Print Previews

Budget Import for Dynamics SL
Entering budgets into Microsoft Dynamics SL is a bit of a problem. We have developed a system at Boyer & Associates, called Budget Import, which allows the user to import an Excel spreadsheet used to create the budget, avoiding user error in converting or entering the data, and allowing the data to be inserted quickly and easily. It consists of two screens and allows for significant flexibility in how the source file is formatted, while remaining simple to setup.Currently in Dynamics SL, the standard Budget Maintenance screen (01.250.00) only allows you to access a single account and subaccount at a time:That gives you good control over each line in the budget, but consider that a company with 50 accounts (a tiny list) and 4 … [Read more...] about Budget Import for Dynamics SL
My Favorite NAV Help Screen – Entering Criteria in Filters
One of the many features of Microsoft Dynamics NAV is the ability to filter the vast detailed data NAV records. To make the filtering easier, NAV has a sophisticated filtering system that allows you to filter on a single field or a combination of fields to isolate the data required. Many users never become accomplished with this great tool because they don’t understand the options for filtering data within NAV.My favorite NAV help screen addresses this issues. From NAV help, if you search for Entering Criteria in Filters (NAV 2015), a concise screen of filter options and examples is displayed. This help screen is beneficial enough that I have suggested to many of my clients that they print it out, laminate it, and distribute it to their … [Read more...] about My Favorite NAV Help Screen – Entering Criteria in Filters
