Boyer & Associates’ Dynamics NAV/BC consulting team is growing yet again. Our newest consultant, Sona Sivanadiyan, has 15 years of end user experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV/365 Business Central.
“It’s been great so far. I really like the culture,” Sivanadiyan said of her new position at the Minneapolis-based ERP reseller. “We have a great team here and everybody helps each other out.”
The daughter of small-business owners, her first job consisted of helping out at her parents’ company in India, where they manufactured IV fluids. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She landed a job in 2003 for a Chicago-based fashion design company that used AMIS software.
In 2007, Sivanadiyan got her first look at Microsoft Dynamics NAV, called Navision at the time. As a business analyst for Powertec Fitness, she was an end user of the ERP software. When it came time to do an upgrade, she served as the intermediary between her coworkers and their ERP partner, doing a lot of requirements gathering and testing to make sure everything was working properly.
She continued to perform the tasks of a business analyst using Dynamics NAV at other companies throughout her career. She was part of several upgrades, helping to gather requirements, document business processes, conduct testing and train other end users on the latest version of the software.
Her most recent role at biotech company Thermo Fisher exposed her to NAV’s cloud version, Dynamics 365 Business Central, which the company hosted on-premise. That’s when she decided she wanted to focus more on the consulting side of the software.
“There is always something new to learn in this field, and I love that,” she said.
While Sivanadiyan has enjoyed her previous jobs, she said the work often slowed down too much for her liking once their upgrade projects went live. She’s excited to work at a company where there will always be another project. She’s also looking forward to seeing how Boyer’s clients operate and use the software.
“Every client will operate differently,” she said. “I’m always interested in deepening my knowledge of NAV/BC … and I felt a consulting role would help me do that.”
At Boyer, Sivanadiyan is a senior consultant on our Dynamics NAV/BC consulting team. She is particularly versed in the functional side of the ERP solution.
“I’m very comfortable with the functional side and look forward to deepening my knowledge in the financial areas,” she said.
As an end user, her background focused largely on shipping, receiving, purchasing and inventory management. She’s also familiar with quality management and the manufacturing process within the ERP software.
Her husband, Siva, is an ERP consultant too, specializing in Oracle software. The couple lives in Los Angeles, California, and has two grown boys, who are both currently working on their master’s degrees. On weekends, she and her husband like to take day trips around southern California, taking walks on the beach, and often visit their younger son at college.
Outside of work, Sivanadiyan loves cooking, drawing and gardening. She also practices yoga and meditation regularly and enjoys doing “Rangoli,” a Hindu art form that involves using colored rice powders to create intricate designs during festivals.
